Tiny House - Reasons and obstacles of living in a small space

Development of party STAROSTOVÉ A NEZÁVISLÍ - from the local organization to the parliamentary party
Pergl, Tomáš ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Jüptner, Petr (referee)
The Mayors and Independents Movement (STAN) is in many aspects of the Czech party system a specific political entity to which has been paid insufficient attention in the academic sphere so far. Therefore, this diploma thesis comprehensively presents the origin and development of the Mayors and Independents movement in a descriptive form of a case study. Partial research questions aim to assess the degree of institutionalization of the STAN movement from the point of view of the theories of the authors Angel Panebianc or Vicky Randall and Lars Svåsand as well as the placement among the classical typologies of political parties from the point of view of internal party organization. The first part is analytical research focused on internal party processes, organizational settings, mutual relations between stakeholders, membership status and analysis of the structure of the STAN movement. The second part is devoted to the ideological and programmatic definition of the STAN movement, within which, in addition to program documents and attitudes of leading actors, the self-profile of the membership base from the data of the questionnaire survey is examined. Last but not least, the work also deals with relations with other political entities in terms of coalition potential for the formation of...
The development of the discourse of right-wing populism in the Czech Republic
Němcová, Lucie ; Císař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čada, Karel (referee)
The thesis examines the development of right-wing populist discourse in the Czech Republic and aims to define the forms and possible changes in populist discourse with a special emphasis on argumentation, then to interpret the changes in a broader social and political context. The research focuses on three organizational incarnations of right-wing populism: Public Affairs, Dawn of Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura and Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura. The research method is a discursive-historical approach, which draws on the analysis of topoi. An analysis of the programs of the two movements and the party showed that the right-wing populist discourse has shifted from the original themes that the Public Affairs party has raised. These are included in the other two movements, but each adds something extra. From the initial anti-elite attitudes, social chauvinism and emphasis on direct democracy in the case of Public Affairs to nationalism and the promotion of national pride in the case of the Dawn, to the harsh euroscepticism, Islamophobia and anti-immigration appeals in the case of the SPD. The topoi used in the VV program is primarily topos of abuse, but the Dawn, with its specific appeal to national awareness, also introduces topos of people or topos of advantage, and the SPD clearly...

Jehovah's Witnesses - the Development of Selected Doctrines
Velechovský, Petr ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The Jehovah's Witnesses and the company Watchtower are quite known to the public. Since the foundation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, thousands of articles in the press tried, less or more successfully, to describe their history. When we come out of the perspective, that they publish only truth about themselves, we would have to conclude, that they are the best religious organization on the world. Since 1998 I have published many articles intentionally dedicated to the issues of Jehovah's Witnesses and other new religious movements in these journals: Dingir - religionistic journal about current religious scene, Rozmer - a journal for Christian spiritual orientation, and Sects and Facts. I also refuted the errors and mistakes published by others about their organization. The aim was to publish truthful information that is not commonly available to their members and the public. In the era of the internet and digitalized archives it would seem that it's no longer needed. Various information can be found on the internet, but they are valuable only when properly verified and, if possible, taken from primary sources. That's why it's necessary to have the critical view on the teachings of the Witnesses and objectively evaluate the danger that comes from their teachings to the believers and unbelievers. The...
The History and impact of the English-Only movement in the United States : Is there hope for language tolerance?
Workman, Romana ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
This Master's thesis aims to analyze the circumstances and grounds of the development of an English-Only Movement in the United States of America (USA), which pursues to establish English as the official language on a federal level, to evaluate its role in contemporary language policy in the United States where about half of all states do not have English enacted as the official language, and to confirm or reverse the thesis as to whether or not the English-Only movement is a right-wing conservative initiative and an influential interest group practicing a so-called language imperialism. This thesis describes the contemporary situation in five analyzed states and extends the topic by a language map of New York City as a historical gateway for immigrants into the United States. It also intends to analyze the contemporary language policy in the light of the new immigration law in a situation where the GOP has a majority in both Houses. The paper also has an ambition to introduce the existence, instruments and successes, or failures, respectively, of the movement to Czech professionals dealing with language issues. In the first part, the paper outlines some important definitions, resources and methods applied herein, and provides a picture of the American identity, values and culture. The second part...
